Where is our One Particular Harbor? It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere at Fin & Tonic where Landfall is every third Tuesday (every other month, for now!) – Social at 6 pm, meeting called to order at 6:30. We start with a brief meeting to take care of club business, we highlight upcoming events, welcome new members and then the main emphasis is being social with some Boat Drinks and a Cheeseburger in Paradise. Attendance is not required, but it is fun!
We have A Lot to Drink About as a locally organized Parrot Head Club, recognized and supported by Jimmy Buffett and his interests in Key West, New Orleans, Gulf Shores, and Margaritaville’s everywhere! We’re a non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist in community outreach programs and to provide for its members a means of social interaction for people interested in Jimmy Buffett’s music, tropical spirit, the artists following in Jimmy’s footsteps, and those needing Changes in Latitude and Attitude. This is in keeping with the goals of all Parrot Head clubs on the Far Side of the World, by providing volunteer support for local and environmental concerns, as well as hosting assorted social activities for people with similar tastes and interests. We are not associated with HK Management, MCA records, or Margaritaville Records.
First, some Barometer Soup….Our official name is the SARASOTA BAY PARROT HEAD CLUB. Back in the fall of ’96 some Fruitcakes from the Sarasota area heard about the National Parrot Head Clubs that were blowing up around the country like a Volcano and realized that the Sarasota Bay area could use one too. Inquiries and plans were made, volunteers were drafted, and by the time summer rolled around the club had a License to Chill with Fins Up! To date, we are over 240 members strong, with more nibbling at our bait (including you!). Another Trip Around the Sun and here we are almost 30 years later, Growing Older But Not Up!
What are The Stories We Could Tell? According to the Coconut Telegraph, this could be anything from Scavenger hunts; the Pub Crawls; our Beach Clean-Ups; the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk; CONCERTS! Tuesday on the Island; House Concerts (where we bring in local or national Trop Rock performers for some Six String Music up close); clothing and food drives; collecting pop tops for Ronald McDonald House; toiletries for a women’s shelter or Veterans; and much, much more! Some of our best Peanut Butter Conspiracy’s have come from our members, so if you have any, let us know.
Our largest Party at the End of the World event is our annual Birthday Bash. A weekend Holiday in September with live music, auctions, and raffles where you’ll Wonder Why you Ever Go Home! With A Little Love and Luck we raise money to benefit local charities. Every year you can find us Conky Tonkin’ at local events, attracting members from clubs all over the country. Wherever the Big Top goes, whether the burbs or In The City, we go!
We also support other clubs’ events – which leads to a Pascagoula Run ROAD TRIP to get our own Gypsies in the Palace! Including the Back to the Island convention Meeting of the Minds in Gulf Shores in October! A large number of our club members are Off to See the Lizard each year for this event with 3000 of our closest Parrothead phriends.
